Sigma Caps Its Most Successful Year Ever
Denver, CO/ Toronto, Canada - December 18, 2001 - Sigma Systems, the cable industry's leading provider of service management solutions, today announced it has been selected to CED Magazine's annual Broadband 50. Sigma is the only cable service management vendor represented in the Broadband 50. CED Magazine (www.cedmagazine.com), published by Cahners Business Information is a monthly technology publication targeted to cable TV and broadband network operators across North America. Its Broadband 50 is one of the industry's most elite lists of " … people, companies and technologies the editors of CED believe will shape the face of broadband in the next year."
"It has been a stellar year for Sigma, and inclusion in CED's Broadband 50 is proof positive of our leadership position. We now serve the majority of the tier-one North American cable operators as well as customers in Europe and Japan," says Stephen Nicolle, Sigma's CEO and President. "Our future looks very bright as we continue to focus on the cable market and being true business partners to our MSO customers as they roll out high speed data, advanced video and voice services."
In early 2001, Sigma closed its first round of funding with a significant equity investment from Cisco Systems, rounding out its roster of existing strategic investors: Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter and Redwood Ventures. Later, Sigma announced deployment of its cable telephony provisioning solution at Cox Communications, becoming the first cable service management vendor to have automated delivery of a solution of this kind to a tier-one cable operator. This milestone deployment marked Sigma's completion of the triple play - data, video and voice management solutions at a cable operator on a national scale.
Sigma also appointed Stephen Nicolle as its CEO and President, following his 16-year tenure at Nortel Networks, where Nicolle most recently served as the company's President of its Service Provider eBusiness Solutions Group, a business unit he founded in 1997. In this position, Nicolle was responsible for Nortel's global OSS strategy - perfectly positioning him for his leadership role at Sigma.
In 2001, Sigma became one of the founding members of CableLabs' CableB2B™ program in contributing its knowledge and expertise in cable service management to develop specifications for shared access across the cable industry. Later in the year, Sigma announced Cogeco Cable had selected the Sigma Service Management Portfolio and was one of five major North American MSOs to use Sigma's solution to migrate its customers from Excite@Home. Sigma also released the Sigma Service Diagnostics Manager, its automated service assurance application currently in production at one of North America's largest cable operators.
"Our annual Broadband 50 is the result of deliberation among the editors and comes as a result of our strong understanding of the industry," says Roger Brown, Editorial Director, CED Magazine. "It is widely recognized that we, as the publisher of a leading technology magazine for cable operators, keep our sights focused on emerging trends and tomorrow's leaders in an industry that is changing before our very eyes."
